In this two day basketry class we will weave simple round base baskets, taking our time to understand the fundamentals, and have some good fun from base to border. This class is beginner level, you do not need to have experience to start! But if you are coming with some previous weaving experience, we can meet your level and offer more advanced patterns.

This class is in conjunction with the Willow Relationship series offer by wetlands permaculture expert Kara Huntermoon at her Eugene Wetlands home in Eugene, Oregon. She offers a five part series over seven months on planting a living willow fence, streambank stabilization, animal integration and fertility, as well as basic weaving techniques. We will be weaving willow cultivated and cured from her land.

Two Day Weekend Weaving Overview

• Learn about how the willow is grown, tended, cured, and mellowed for weaving from Kara of Heartaculture Farm, where over a dozen different european basketry willow varieties are grown

• Practice selecting and preparing soaked willow, and how different tools are used for even and tight baskets

• Twine a round base, stake and wail the sides, and finish with a border. Each of these steps is a different pattern that gets easier to remember with each basket.

• Add a handle and footer if there is time!
